Most wrong-part orders happen for one reason:
The seller can’t see the install reality.
Operators prevent this by sending a specific set of photos that eliminates guesswork. If you do this every time, you’ll reduce wrong purchases, repeat labor, and downtime.
The 5 Photos That Prevent Wrong Parts
1) Full Context Photo (Where the part lives)
Step back and capture the part installed in place. This shows orientation, nearby components, and access limitations.
2) Connector / Fitting Close-Up
Get close. Show the connector, fitting, terminals, ports, or hose connections clearly. This is where compatibility mistakes happen.
3) Mounting & Bolt Pattern
Capture mounting points and fasteners. Include the bracket, bolt spacing, and how it attaches.
4) Clearance & Surroundings
Show how much room exists around the part. Many parts “fit” on paper but don’t fit in real compartments.
5) Label / Plate + One Measurement Photo
Photograph any tag/plate even if it’s hard to read later. Then add one photo with a tape measure or calipers on the key dimension.
Operator Rule
If you can’t show how it installs, you can’t confirm fit.
Cooperative Challenge
Make this quarter interactive:
Take these 5 photos on your boat and compare them to what you normally send.
- Which photo do you usually skip?
- Which one would have prevented your last wrong-part order?
